Portals
This is a forged steel door frame with two hand formed Agave plants at the base. Sand surrounds the door at the bottom. Doorways are physical and symbolic entry points to new places. In this installation, the door’s destination is unknown, but the Agave plant suggests resilience and transformation. Within the Aztec culture, Agave plants symbolize the cycle of life. Their spikes represent challenges faced in life, and their resiliencies found in their ability to survive harsh environments. This door is a path to life; it’s challenges, beauty, pain, and love.
